Summary
Private acreage on a historic stagecoach road, a 1928 cottage that knows how to host. Three bedrooms including a kids bunk room, a covered front porch running the length of the house, and enough outdoor space to lose an afternoon in. Twenty minutes to UNC Chapel Hill and Duke Hospital. Moringsville Cottage is the one you book when the trip actually matters.
Space
Moringsville Cottage sits on land with a history that runs much deeper than the 1928 house. This was a stagecoach road long before it was a county road, and the grounds hold the kind of quiet that only comes from a place that has been here a very long time. Three bedrooms including a kids bunk room, a sleeper sofa, and two full bathrooms. Comfortably sleeps eight, though not eight adults.
King Bedroom — Primary
King bed with antique brass frame on original hardwood floors. Private en suite bathroom with shower. A reading chair, a cedar hope chest at the foot of the bed, warm sage walls. This is the room guests mention in reviews.
Queen Bedroom
Queen bed, good natural light, hardwood floors. Dedicated workspace with desk and lamp. Comfortable for adults or older kids.
Kids Bunk Room
Four child-sized bunks and a kids play kitchen — the third bedroom, and the one kids claim first. Toys included. This room has its own ecosystem.
Living Room
Large sectional with a full queen sleeper sofa. Easy flow to the kitchen and out to the front porch. The room the whole group ends up in.
Kitchen
Fully stocked and built for real cooking. Counter space, full appliances, everything needed for a proper meal. Local coffee stocked in the kitchen when you arrive. This kitchen has handled a Thanksgiving dinner for a family that needed one. It can handle yours.
Bathrooms
Two full bathrooms — the primary en suite has a shower; the second bathroom has a tub.
Dedicated Workspace
Each adult bedroom has a desk and lamp. Reliable wifi throughout.
For families with young children
High chair, Pack ‘n Play, infant bath chair, kids plates and utensils, and a kids play kitchen are all on hand. The bunk room has toys. Outside: a full-size trampoline with safety enclosure, a swingset with slide, and open lawn to run on. Moringsville is one of the better-equipped properties in the area for traveling families.
Front Porch
A covered porch running the full length of the house. Wicker seating, a swing, a bench, room for everyone. Where the morning coffee happens and where nobody wants to leave.
Back Deck
Outdoor dining, open views to the tree line.
Covered Grill Area
A separate covered outdoor space with the gas grill and additional seating. The place where dinner actually gets made.
Grounds
Full-size trampoline with safety enclosure. Kids swingset with slide. Brick fire pit with bench seating on the open lawn — the place where s’mores happen. Private acreage with mature oaks and pines on all sides. A historic cemetery accessible through the woods on the property grounds, a quiet remnant of the land’s long history. Gravel drive with parking for multiple vehicles.
The outdoor spread at Moringsville is the detail guests come back for. Private acreage on one of the oldest stagecoach roads in the county, with the kind of quiet you have to leave the city to find.
You walk in and the local coffee is already there, the porch is waiting, and the grounds are yours. That is how Delighted Properties works. We are locally rooted in Durham — in the products we stock, the recommendations we make, and the care we put into every turn. Be Delighted.
Neighborhood
Moringsville Cottage sits just across the Chatham County line from Durham, in the same quiet SW Durham corridor as NC-751 — close enough to reach everything the Triangle has to offer, far enough to mean something when you step onto the porch. O’Kelly Chapel Road is one of the oldest stagecoach routes in the area. The neighborhood feels rural. The city is eight miles away. That is the combination guests come here for.
Coffee
Local coffee is stocked in the kitchen. The nearest stop is not walkable — you are on private acreage. Plan ahead or enjoy what is already there. For a sit-down option, Bean Traders in the Homestead Market on Highway 54 is the closest local roaster.
Food nearby
Harris Teeter is 3.7 miles north on NC-751. Southpoint Mall is 4 miles north — First Watch, Firebirds, Ted’s Montana Grill, and a movie theatre. Hope Valley Commons 4.5 miles north has a pub and everyday essentials. For a broader dining run, Chapel Hill and Carrboro are fifteen minutes west on NC-54 — Top of the Hill and Lantern are the anchors.
The landmark
Old Mill Farm, next door. A family-owned century farm that has been working this land since 1906. On Fridays, the farm opens for Fridays at the Farm — live music, farm animals, food trucks, and beer and wine on tap. Entry is free for guests of Moringsville Cottage. This is the kind of neighbor a listing cannot invent.
Outdoors
Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is approximately 8 miles — fishing, kayaking, swimming, and trails. The lake is the area’s primary outdoor draw and easy to build a day around.

Notes
A few things worth knowing — we share these not as a warning but because guests who know what to expect tend to have the best stays.
> You are in a rural wooded setting. Insects, spiders, and the occasional small creature are part of life on this land. The home is well maintained, but this is the woods — some guests find a stink bug or spider indoors, and the occasional lizard has been known to pass through. That is nature, not neglect. Guests who love the outdoors tend to love this property.
> A historic cemetery is accessible through the woods on the property grounds — a quiet remnant of the land’s long history. We mention it here so you know before you arrive. Guests who love history tend to find it one of the more memorable details of the stay.
> This property is on a private well and septic system. Please keep food waste and grease out of the kitchen drain, and flush only toilet paper. The well water is tested and safe to drink. Water pressure may vary slightly from what you are used to — this is normal for well systems.
> This home sleeps up to eight guests. The third bedroom has four child-sized bunks — not suited for adults.
> Well-behaved dogs are welcome and must be registered before arrival. A pet fee applies. Up to two dogs maximum.
> Families are welcome and well-equipped for here. High chair, Pack ‘n Play, infant bath chair, kids plates and utensils, and a kids play kitchen are available. The bunk room has toys.
> The gas grill is in the covered outdoor area, separate from the back deck.
> The fire pit is available for use. Please extinguish completely before going inside.
> Reservations include identity verification through our screening partner. You may receive an email to complete this step — check your spam folder if you do not see it. We are happy to answer any questions before you book.
> This address may not be used to establish residency or open accounts. Packages are welcome during your stay.
